We are thrilled to share the incredible dedication and teamwork that went into restoring a cherished park artifact—one of our cannons. Thanks to the combined efforts of our amazing staff, and volunteers, the cannon is now ready to stand tall for this year’s reenactment of the First Crossing on December 8, 2024!
This labor of love began with the dismantling of the cannon, with each piece carefully taken apart. From there, the team moved to cleaning and sanding the weathered surfaces, removing years of wear, and preparing it for a fresh coat of historically accurate paint. New hardware was installed to ensure it is safe and ready for action.
This project not only restored a piece of history but also brought our community together. Volunteers and staff worked side by side—sharing skills, stories, and laughter. Visitors stopped by to ask questions and learn more about our historical artillery piece. This particular cannon is a recreated “3 Pounder” on a galloper carriage. The transformation of this cannon symbolizes the commitment we all share to preserving the legacy of Washington Crossing Historic Park.
As we look ahead to the First Crossing and our Christmas Crossing, we are excited to see this beautifully restored cannon in action, playing a key role in the reenactments this year. Our deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed their time, skills, and passion to this restoration project.
Be sure to join us in December to witness history come to life once again!
