Women of Washington Crossing: Celebrating Community Partnerships

March 5th, 2026 News and Events

As we look ahead to the 250th anniversary of Washington’s Crossing in 2026, we’re proud to shine a light on the community partners whose collaboration and generosity help make WCHP a place for gathering, reflection, and shared history. Their support has been critical in helping us enhance the site, expand programs, and share this history with our community over the years, and it continues to be essential as we prepare for this once-in-a-generation milestone. These relationships remind us that the park’s story is shaped not only by the events of the past, but by the people and traditions that continue to bring history to life today.

This Women’s History Month, we are proud to highlight the women of the Washington Crossing Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter, longtime partners whose mission to preserve Revolutionary War history and educate future generations aligns with our own. Since 2015, DAR members have helped bring the Park’s history to life through dedicated volunteerism and ongoing advocacy.

Each year, DAR members support a range of on-site educational programs, including Washington’s Birthday, the Memorial Day commemoration, First Crossing, and field trip initiatives. They also take part in annual traditions such as commemorative wreath placements at the Thompson-Neely soldiers’ graves and decorating the holiday tree at the Visitor Center. Their fundraising efforts include the Historic Sites and Bites Cookbook in the Patriot Gift Shoppe, assistance with our 15th Anniversary Gala, Attic Treasures Sale, and helping secure a national DAR grant in 2022.

The chapter was recognized with the 2023 Long-Term Service Award, and members Marilyn Knocky and Judi Biederman are both past Volunteers of the Year. We are also honored to have Judi Biederman serving on the FWCP Board of Directors,  reflecting the connection between the DAR and the park community.

This partnership will be highlighted on March 15 at 2:00 PM with An Afternoon with Martha Washington, a special Women’s History Month program sponsored by the Washington Crossing, Margaret Gale Thornton, and Bucks County DAR chapters. This program features Alisa Dupuy, who has portrayed Martha Dandridge Custis Washington since 2009 and has performed for hundreds of audiences nationwide.

Through this engaging living history presentation, audiences will gain insight into Martha Washington’s life, her role during the Revolutionary War, and the experiences of one of the nation’s most influential women. All program proceeds will support 2026 initiatives at WCHP, and registration is required.

We are deeply grateful for the continued dedication and enthusiasm the DAR brings to the park as we prepare for 2026 and work together to share these important stories with our community.
