Monthly Living History Programs

From April through September of 2025, Washington Crossing Historic Park will be hosting a series of free monthly living history programs focused on various aspects of military and civilian life during the American Revolution. At the Thomspon Neely Farmstead and Lower Park Village, these free, educational programs will be running from 11 AM-3 PM on the 2nd Saturday and 4th Friday of each month. Please see below for a detailed schedule of the programs and their topics. We hope to see you there!

 

Farmstead Fridays (Thompson Neely Farmstead)

Our Farmstead Fridays programs, which will take place the 4th Friday of each month, will feature demonstrations on civilian life during the Revolution. Below is a list of the topics and which date they will be on, you can click on each date to be taken to the even page with a more detailed description.

  • May 23: Farm Chores – Planting, building gates, and forging latches
  • June 27: Household Chores – Churning butter, making candles, chopping firewood
  • July 25: Making Hay – Mowing, drying, and storing hay for the winter
  • August 22: Shepherding the Flock – Herding sheep, wool processing, and caring for animals
  • September 26: Preserving the Harvest – Learn traditional methods like pickling, salting, and drying

 

 

Soldier Saturdays (Lower Park Village)

Our Soldier Saturday programs will take place on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Each month’s program will feature a different topic range from the Hessians to Artillery. Below is a list of the topics and which date they will be on, you can click on each date to be taken to the even page with a more detailed description.

  • April 12: Hessian Encampment – Drill, camp cooking, and the daily life of Hessian soldiers
  • May 10: Camp Kitchen – Construction in the Continental Army
  • June 14: Shelter Construction – Building brush huts for soldiers’ camps (held in conjunction with McConkey’s Market)
  • July 12: Soldiers and Camp Followers – Explore military life with displays and demonstrations
  • August 9: Continental Artillery – Learn about the role of artillery during the Revolution
  • September 13: 18th Century Tradesmen – civilian trades that produced supplies for the army (held in conjunction with McConkey’s Market)

After September

Even though these programs end in September, that doesn’t mean we stop everything! Join us in October for our Fall Lantern Tours, and Look forward to our Crossing Reenactments, and Ten Crucial Days Bus tours in December!
