George Washington’s 294th Birthday Celebration

Celebrate George Washington’s 294th birthday with a lively, hands-on afternoon at the park. This free, family-friendly event invites visitors to step back into the 18th century with interactive activities and living history demonstrations taking place throughout the park. Activities are best suited for ages 4–12, though all ages are welcome to attend.

Children will receive an event passport, and can get it stamped at each of the interpretive stations throughout the park. Collect all the stamps to win a special prize! Children 12 and under are also encouraged to take part in the park’s “Let’s Draw George” contest by creating a handmade birthday card or artwork featuring George Washington.

The Visitor Center Museum will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and a food truck will be on site with hot beverages and snacks available for purchase. At 1:45 PM, everyone is invited to gather in the Visitor Center to sing “Happy Birthday” to General Washington, watch him cut his birthday cake with his sword, and enjoy cupcakes.

“Let’s Draw George” Contest

Create a handmade birthday card or artwork featuring George Washington in any medium or style—creativity encouraged! Contest entries can be created at the event, made at home and brought in, or mailed to the address below. Please submit entries by February 15th. Include artist’s name, age, address, and guardian’s phone number and email contact, on the back.

Birthday Celebration

At 1:45 PM, gather in the Auditorium of the Visitor Center to sing Happy Birthday to General Washington and watch him cut his cake – with his sword!
