This class has been postponed.   Join a handful of other cooks to prepare an authentic 18th-century meal at Washington Crossing Historic Park. You’ll learn the basic techniques of open hearth cooking in the Hibbs House. Using the hearth, you'll prepare a seasonal 18th-century meal with a special Mother's Day dessert, and then enjoy the meal as a group at the end of the class. The May meeting of the Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club is set for Monday, May 18, at 5:30 PM in the Visitor Center. In this meeting, museum curator Kimberly McCarty will lead a discussion of the The Men Who Lost America by Andrew O’Shaughnessy. Participants should be prepared to discuss Chapters Eight, Nine, and the conclusion. Participation is free and open to all. Members should provide their own books. CANCELED: Memorial Day Ceremony

This event has been canceled.   The observation will include a colonial color guard, fife and drum music, Revolutionary War reenactors, the Guardians of the National Cemetery Firing Party, Daughters of the American Revolution, veterans, and other honored guests. During the ceremony, American flags will be placed on the graves. The gravesite marks the resting place of soldiers who died during the Continental army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. Although no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing and the First Battle of Trenton, some soldiers succumbed to exposure, disease or previous injuries. This event has been canceled.   Historian Kim Burdick will present a free lecture discussing the dangers of the rampant spread of disease in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The most dangerous place for a soldier during the war was not the battlefield. Living in close quarters with hundreds of other soldiers, the most dangerous place for a soldier was actually the encampments. In fact, fever and infections killed more soldiers than any wounds suffered in battle. This event has been canceled.   Join Washington Crossing Historic Park curator Kimberly McCarty for a free gallery tour of the Visitor Center exhibit, Soldier Health in Revolutionary Pennsylvania. The exhibit illustrates the greatest danger that soldiers faced during the Revolutionary War: disease. In the 18th century, very little was known about preventing the spread of bacteria and infection, which allowed diseases such as scabies, dysentery, small pox, typhus and yellow fever to plague the troops. In fact, 6,000 of the 17,000 soldiers in Pennsylvania in August 1776 were ill. In the exhibit, visitors can step into a sick room that…
