This event has been canceled.   See the Thompson-Neely Grist Mill in action during a live milling demonstration. You'll learn how 19th century techniques and tools would have been used by a miller as part of the Thompson-Neely Farmstead. The mill is located across the street from the Thompson-Neely House and Farmstead: 1635 River Road, New Hope, PA. Admission is $7 per person and includes a guided tour of the Thompson-Neely House and Farmstead across the street. Visitors who have purchased a multi-site tour for a milling demonstration day may attend the demonstration at no extra charge.

Dr. Friederike Baer will visit Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) to give a free public lecture on "The Decision to Hire German Troops in the War of American Independence: Reactions in Britain and North America, 1774-1776." The lecture is set for Sunday, November 8 at 2 PM in the Visitor Center auditorium. Between 1774-1776, German soldiers were hired to defend British interests in America. Baer will discuss British and American public reactions to the plan. In Britain, the reliance on forces from outside the empire provoked strong opposition. Washington Crossing Historic Park curator Kimberly McCarty will give a free public lecture on Sunday, December 6 at 7 PM on some of the people who contributed to the Ten Crucial Days surrounding the crossing. Each December, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.
