Friday Morning Healthy Hikes!

Hiking is a great way to improve your physical and mental health! On Friday, January 14 from 10 - 11:30 AM, join the park naturalist for a quickly paced 2.5 mile hike along the trails of WCHP. Please keep in mind that these hikes are intended to maintain a quick hiking pace. Prepare yourself for the day by bringing a full water bottle, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing for the weather! January Book Club: Surviving the Winters

The January 2022 meeting of the Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club is set for Tuesday, January 18 at 5:30 PM. This meeting will be held virtually using Zoom. Registration is required. To register, please visit DCNR's website. Zoom meeting details will be provided upon registration. Museum curator Kimberly McCarty will continue the club's discussion of Surviving the Winters: Housing Washington’s Army During the American Revolution by Steven Elliott. Participants should be prepared to discuss chapters three through five. Book club meetings are free and open to all. Members should provide their own books.

Fly Tying Basics: A Workshop Program Series

Learn the art of tying fishing flies and discover stream ecology! Catching a fish on a hand tied fly that you tied can be an extremely rewarding experience! Join the Park Naturalist for basic fly tying instruction and some watershed education, every Wednesday evening in February from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Participants will hone and develop fly tying skills through weekly hands on instruction and will tie flies to take home! All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own tying equipment. Cost for this four class program series is $15 per person and must be paid…

On Sunday, February 13 at 1:30 PM, author William L. Kidder will discuss his new book The Revolutionary World of a Free Black Man: Jacob Francis 1754-1836. Born in Amwell Township to a free Black mother, Jacob Francis lived his 82-year life in a world of revolutionary change. He became caught up in the rising tide of revolution in the 1760s and 70s and served fourteen months in the 16th Continental Army regiment, including at the Battle of Trenton, and then in the Third Hunterdon County militia regiment for over six years.
