Guided Bird Walk

Mornings are your best opportunity to experience the thrilling world of birdwatching and listening! Join the park naturalist for a slowly guided walk as we look and listen for migratory avian friends. Topics such as basic bird identification through sound and sight will be discussed. Binoculars can be available upon request, but participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own. Washington Crossing Historic Park sits in a unique bird habitat crossroads. These programs are designed for toddlers ages 3-7 and build on children’s sense of wonder about nature, inviting them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Friday Healthy Hike

Hiking is a great way to improve your physical and mental health! Join the park naturalist for a quickly paced 2 mile hike along the trails of WCHP. Please keep in mind that these hikes are intended to maintain a quick hiking pace. Prepare yourself for the day by bringing a full water bottle, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing for the weather! Birding Field Trip

This program will be held off site at Core Creek Park and is designed for anyone who has participated in past Guided Bird Walks at Washington Crossing Historic Park or for anyone who already possesses the basic birding skills.  Topics such as basic bird identification through sound and sight will be discussed. Bluebird Bonanza

During this program participants will have the opportunity to learn about Eastern Bluebirds & the other cavity-nesting species that call Washington Crossing Home. After a short walk and quick look inside an active cavity nest, participants will have the opportunity to construct their own nesting box to take home! Tea in the Garden

Tea in the Garden is an event for adults and their children to learn a little history while having a lot of fun out in our historic garden. Children ages 7-12 will learn about our favorite 18th century herbs and have the joyful opportunity to create their own tea and drink it in 18th century fashion. Kids will receive either a mob cap bonnet or tricorne patriot hat to wear through the tea party and take home as a souvenir. Charcoal Burn

Washington Crossing Historic Park and many volunteers will recreate the “lost art” of turning wood into charcoal, just as the furnace colliers did over a century ago. The continuous demonstration will begin Saturday at 12:00pm with preparation of the hearth, stacking of the wood, and covering the pit with leaves and dirt. The lighting off of the pit will take place about 1:00pm. The pit will burn continuously into Sunday morning, and will end with raking the coal out on Sunday morning beginning at 9:00am. Let’s see what we can catch in the creek! Historic Pidcock Creek was and still is the main source of power for the historic Thompson-Neely Grist Mill.
